The Information and Communications Department of the State Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that at 11:30 am on September 17, 2022, units of the State Border Guard Service suppressed mortar shelling by Tajik servicemen in Dostuk village.
Then from 12:30 pm to 12:35 pm, the Tajik side shelled positions and units of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry’s Internal Troops in the Tort-Kocho area of Batken District.
The exchange of fire has now ceased.
An investigation into the incident has been launched.
12:37 pm, in violation of the ceasefire agreement, Tajikistan used mortars and artillery to shell Kyrgyz border guard positions in Teshik-Tash, Karamyk and Karool-Dobo villages in Chon-Alay district of Osh region. Units of the Border Guard Service of the SCNS of the Kyrgyz Republic stationed in Osh oblast returned fire.
However, to de-escalate the incident, the Kyrgyz soldiers were the first to unilaterally stop firing.
Negotiations between Kyrgyz and Tajik border officials are pending.
